AI Credits per plan

GitHub prices Copilot chat and agent usage in GitHub AI Credits. One credit is $0.01, and every paid plan includes a monthly allowance that resets each month. Here is what each plan includes, and how many dollars of credits you get for each dollar you pay.

What uses credits, and what does not

Chat, agent mode, code review, Copilot cloud agent, Copilot CLI, Spaces and Spark use AI Credits. How many depends on the model and the task: a quick question to a lightweight model costs a fraction of a credit, while a long agent session on a frontier model costs more. Code completions and next edit suggestions do not use credits and stay unlimited on every paid plan. The Free plan is capped at 2,000 completions and 50 chat requests a month instead, and supports Copilot CLI and agent mode.

Which plan to pick

Mostly completions: Pro is enough, since completions are unlimited and do not touch your credits. Regular chat and agent use: Pro+ gives more than four times the credits of Pro for about four times the price. Agents all day: Max is built for sustained agent-driven work and gives the most credits per dollar. If credits are your main cost, compare the per-token rates of the models you use on our AI API prices page, because heavier models drain credits faster.

FAQ

How many GitHub AI Credits does each Copilot plan include?

Pro includes $15 a month (1,500 credits), Pro+ $70 (7,000) and Max $200 (20,000). Free has no dollar allowance; it is limited to 2,000 completions and 50 chat requests a month.

Do code completions use AI Credits?

No. GitHub says code completions and next edit suggestions do not use credits and remain unlimited with every paid plan.

What happens when I run out of Copilot credits?

You can set a dollar budget for additional usage and keep working (credits draw down at $0.01 each, so a $10 budget covers 1,000 credits), switch to a lighter model that uses fewer credits, or wait for your monthly reset. Copilot settings show your usage and reset date, with alerts at 75%, 90% and 100% of a budget.

What do base and flex credits mean?

GitHub splits each paid allowance into base credits and flex credits, variable additional usage on top of the base. Pro is $10 base plus $5 flex, Pro+ $39 plus $31, and Max $100 plus $100.

Which Copilot plan is the best value?

Per dollar, Max gives the most credits ($2.00 of credits per $1), then Pro+ ($1.79) and Pro ($1.50). If you mostly use completions, Pro is the better buy because completions do not use credits.
